Industrial Design is the profession which conceptually develops products manufactured by industry for the end user according to criteria such as functionality, taste of the target group and user needs, and which projects them as new products suitable for production. Industrial design constitutes the relationship between humans and products manufactured by industrial methods.

Since industrial methods target the mass of consumers in the market in broad sense, their main aim is to optimize the expenses such as materials, processes, and workmanship in order to economize the mass-produced industrial products. Industrial designer masters these methods, and uses the language of these methods to communicate with the other elements of the industrial environment, such as engineers, managers, etc.

Industrial designer expresses the relationship between the product and the user as visual, aesthetic and functional values imposed on the product, in order to primarily provide a comfortable, sound, safe and communicative relationship, and then to convey the product to the user in its need. Industrial designers not only respond human needs in the direction of industrial requirements, but also endeavor to create a competitive distinction for their employers, i.e. the entrepreneurs, who will produce and market the product.

In its broadest sense, industrial design is humanization of technology. Industrial design is the professional service which optimizes the functions, values and appearances of products and systems, and creates and develops concepts and definitions for this process which involves reciprocal interest of both the manufacturer and the user. Industrial designers develop such concepts and definitions through the data collected, analyzed and synthesized with the guidance of the client’s or the manufacturer’s specific needs. Designers are educated to produce clear and distinct proposals in forms of drawings, modellings, and verbal expressions.
