Industrial Designers’ Society of Turkey (ETMK), an association founded in 1988 in Ankara, Turkey, is the only professional organization in Turkey giving service in the field of industrial design. Founded by a group of young designers in the mid 1980s, ETMK today has a total of 300 members in and out of Turkey. In 1998 ETMK established its Istanbul branch. The main goal of ETMK is to promote industrial design profession to the society, to establish and protect the rights and authorizations of designers, to strengthen the communication and solidarity among colleagues and to support the provision of designed, qualified products to the society in collaboration with related institutions.
ETMK aims to bring industrial design to common platforms for the consideration of professionals, manufacturers and users with the exhibitions it has opened, competitions it has organized and supported, books and catalogues it has published, and panels and training sessions it has realized until today. The primary goals of ETMK are to point out the increasing importance of industrial design within the local and international markets, and to share experiences and contributions of Turkish designers, by reaching out to various parts of the community and the industry. In order to attain these goals, each year ETMK organises various activities and makes their documentation.
